Weekly Update

We've managed to get through this week relatively unscathed; the boss is back on deck, the printer didn't break and we've replaced the laptop! There was the small issue of the phone line being down for two days, but we've got that under control and it's back to business as normal now.

We've been hard at work, behind the scenes, working to try and make our cupcake range more inclusive, so we're super excited to announce our new vegan cupcake! This delicious chocolate treat may have been nicknamed 'Black Magic', because somehow this recipe works without eggs and dairy. I may or may not have doubted Christina when she told me they would rise and turn out amazing, and she may or may not have been correct. Now we just have to see if we can change the recipe  to gluten free flour and we will have a delicious gluten, egg and dairy free cupcake!

We have our free monthly demo coming up this week, with our lovely guest demonstrator, Sonia, showing us how she flips her fondant covered cakes for perfect edges (I have tried this and it works) and how to use the amazing Sweet Sticks Edible Art Paints. The demo will run from 6pm to 7pm at our store, 221 Waiwhetu Road on Thursday 2nd July. Make sure to pop along and see this interesting technique in action.

In exciting cake news, the new Sweet Sticks Edible Art Paint Palette is due in store very soon and I cannot wait! This wee beauty features ten metallic colours in a water activated palette, perfect for adding a metallic finish to all your cakes, cookies and sweet creations. Keep an eye on our Facebook page, to make sure you get your hands on one as soon as they arrive.

In non Cupcake Sweeties news, I am currently writing this weeks blog from Christchurch. It was a bit of a stressful flight as my carry on baggage was a little different to normal; a two tier baby shower cake! Usually if I have to fly with cake I prefer to either decorate or just assemble when I arrive, however I was on a bit of a tight schedule this time around, so the cake had to be fully assembled prior to departure. Fortunately the Air New Zealand staff were fabulous and it survived an hour in the overhead locker, making it to the baby shower in one piece!

Not one cake, but two! Although I wouldn't recommend eating the one on the right.
