DIY Cake Lace
DIY Cake Lace Recipe (No Fancy Ingredients Needed!) 🎂✨
You may have noticed we're no longer stocking Flexi Lace in-store. That decision came after an outrageous price increase from the supplier — and honestly, we’re not here for that!
But don’t worry, I’ve got your back. This DIY cake lace recipe is a beautiful alternative: flexible, easy to work with, and best of all, it’s made from ingredients most cakers already have in the pantry.
🧁 DIY Cake Lace Recipe
Ingredients:
-
1 Tbsp Tylose Powder
-
60ml Boiling Water
-
1 Tbsp Icing Sugar
-
2 Tbsp Cornflour
-
¼ tsp Meringue Powder (optional but recommended for flexibility)
-
½ tsp Corn Syrup
-
Gel Colour as needed
📝 Instructions:
1. Hydrate the Tylose
Place Tylose Powder in a small heatproof bowl. Pour in boiling water and mix with a fork or whisk.
It will be lumpy at first — let it sit for a few minutes and the lumps will dissolve somewhat.
2. Add the dry ingredients
Stir in Icing Sugar, Cornflour, and Meringue Powder.
3. Add corn syrup and colour
Mix in corn syrup and your chosen gel colour (or whitener if preferred).
4. Adjust consistency if needed
If the mixture is too thick to spread, add a tiny splash of boiling water.
⚠️ Be careful not to add too much or your lace may tear easily when dry!
5. Rest and store
Cover the mixture with cling film until ready to use.
It keeps well in the fridge for up to a week.
6. Dry your lace
Spread into lace moulds and either:
-
Leave to air dry overnight
-
Or bake at 50°C for 10–15 mins
🚫 Don’t overbake or the lace will become brittle.
💡 Note:
This recipe can be made without meringue powder — but your lace will be a little less flexible.
Happy caking, everyone!
