Location & Class Information
Classes are held at Cupcake Sweeties, 13 Trafalgar Square, Waterloo, Lower Hutt, Wellington.
Our classes are kept small, with a maximum of 10 people*, so there is plenty of opportunity for hands-on help and guidance.
A minimum of 5 bookings is required for a class to proceed.
Classes are generally standing, with limited seating available on request.
You’re welcome to shop after your class and enjoy a special in-store class discount.
Ages & Skill Level
Most of our cake and cupcake decorating classes are designed for adults at a beginner to intermediate skill level, with step-by-step guidance throughout.
Age guidelines (general rule):
Age 12+ with a paying adult
Age 14+ may attend on their own
We also run Kids School Holiday Classes designed especially for children aged 6–12 years, with age-appropriate activities, plenty of hands-on fun, and full guidance provided throughout.
Some classes may have specific age requirements, so please check the individual class description for details before booking.
What is included in a cake decorating class?
Everything you need for your cake decorating class is provided, including cakes or cupcakes, buttercream, ingredients, decorating tools and equipment.
Classes include step-by-step guidance in a relaxed, supportive setting, and you’ll take home everything you decorate.
There’s no need to bring anything, although you may like to bring an apron and water bottle.
Do you offer private cake decorating classes?
Yes. We offer private cake and cupcake decorating classes in Lower Hutt, Wellington for groups of generally 5 to 10 people.
They’re perfect for work events, girls’ nights, birthdays, team activities and group celebrations.
You can choose from one of our existing classes, or contact us to discuss a custom class. Pricing is the same as our scheduled classes, and for bookings of 7 or more people, the organiser attends free.
Private classes are usually held on a weekday evening from 6pm or on a Saturday afternoon, depending on availability. We recommend booking early, as popular dates can fill quickly.
Got a smaller group?
If you have, for example, 4 friends who want to attend, contact us. We may be able to schedule the class and open the remaining places to other customers.
Do you offer kids’ birthday parties?
Yes. We can run kids’ cupcake decorating birthday parties for children aged around 6 to 12 years.
Parties are run in a similar format to our school holiday classes and usually last around 1 hour. Each child decorates 4 cupcakes to take home.
Price: $40 per person
At this stage, we offer the cupcake decorating activity only, rather than a full birthday party service with food, decorations or party hosting.

Bookings & Cancellations
Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place.
If you can no longer attend, cancellations made at least 72 hours before the class can be transferred to another person or issued as a Cupcake Sweeties store credit.
Cancellations within 72 hours of the class and non-attendance are generally non-refundable and are not eligible for store credit. We understand that genuine illness or unexpected circumstances can happen, so please contact us as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to help where we reasonably can.
Classes require a minimum of 5 participants to go ahead. If the minimum is not met, Cupcake Sweeties may cancel or reschedule the class. Participants will be notified at least 72 hours prior and offered a transfer to another class or a full refund.
If Cupcake Sweeties cancels a class for any other reason, a full refund or transfer will be offered.
