This product is used to make an alternative icing to buttercream. It is a white shortening, meaning it is gluten and dairy free / vegan. You can use it as a substitute for butter giving you a true white base. Starting with a white buttercream base ensures you get a true colour for your icing. It has the added benefit of being more temperature stable than butter, so you will not lose your icing effects on a hot or humid day. The optional addition of Meringue Powder can also be made to guarantee this.

Some decorators do prefer the taste of buttercream when the icing is made with butter, however this will give you a yellow or slightly off-white base colour. This means that if you want to create a blue icing, adding blue colour will make your icing teal or with green colour you will get chartreuse. This is perfectly fine if you are not fussed about a true colour, if you’re after a specific colour, when matching a theme for example, this could be a problem. As a compromise you can use half shortening, half butter, giving you a whiter more stable buttercream with a lighter taste.

Another option is to use LorAnn oils to flavour the icing - this adds so many options! Some of our favourites would have to be coconut, barvarian creme and key lime!

We have been really impressed with the quality of the icing made with Sno Creme - both in taste and consistency.

Ingredients

Vegetable Oil, Emulsifiers (435,471) Antioxidant (307b)

Recipe
  • 1 cup Sno Creme (180gm)
  • 500gm Icing Sugar
  • Approx 70ml Water or Milk
  • Vanilla essence or other LorAnn oils to taste (optional)

Pace the shortening, vanilla and water into a mixer and mix until smooth. Add icing sugar and mix well. You may need to add more water to get the desired consistency. Scrape the sides of the bowl while making the icing.

Note: You may need to add more water in the cooler months and less in the warmer.
