How to use Edible Images - Cupcake Sweeties

How to use Edible Images

This week we talk through edible images; how to use them, what they're made of and much more!

🎨 Custom Edible Images – Just $20 per A4 Sheet!

We can print any image onto A4 edible icing sheets — perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies! 💫
Each sheet is $20 and can be cut to size with scissors. The possibilities are endless! ✂️

🧁 How to Use Your Edible Image

1. Start with your cake

Use a homemade or store-bought cake with icing like fondant, buttercream, sugar paste, or royal icing.
Apply the image as soon as possible after icing.
Note: Dark or moist icings can affect how your image looks – for best results, use light-coloured icing or a fondant plaque underneath.

2. Prep the image

Keep it sealed until you're ready to use. Let it air for a few minutes so it’s easier to peel off the backing.

3. Remove the backing

Gently peel the icing sheet from the plastic backing.
⚠️ If it sticks, place it in the freezer for 30–90 seconds, then try again.

4. Apply the image

If your cake’s surface is dry, mist it lightly with water.
DO NOT wet the image.
Place the centre of the image onto the cake and smooth outward with dry fingers.

Tears or wrinkles? Don’t panic! Just smooth gently — minor flaws usually self-heal within an hour.

5. Finishing touches

Your image will blend into the icing after a few hours.
To polish the look, you can:

  • Pipe a border around the image

  • Add sprinkles, sweets, or ribbon for extra flair

🧁 Using Edible Images on Cupcakes

  • Your image will be printed on an A4 sheet.

  • We recommend applying it to gumpaste discs for a professional finish.
    Here’s how:

  1. Roll out fondant or gumpaste

  2. Lightly moisten the back of the image

  3. Press onto the gumpaste and cut a neat circle with a cutter

  4. Let dry overnight and store out of light

📦 Storage Instructions

  • Keep flat in its original bag until use

  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading

  • Don’t place heavy items on top

Hi,

Same question – can you use edible images on biscuits? If so, what is the best way of doing this? Using the image on fondant and sicking the fondant on?

Thanks

Can a sheet of edible image be wrapped or molded around cake edges? I am hoping to put an image on a buttercream-frosted bundt cake that will completely cover the cake from top to bottom.. Can it work? Thank you.
